The UK Top 10 research priorities to help people live better with and
beyond cancer were officially unveiled to the public on 6 November at
the 2018 National Cancer Research Institute Conference.
You may recall our survey back in April inviting you to rank your top
questions for research. Many thanks again to everyone for taking part,
with your help a shortlist of 26 questions were outlined, which then
went to a workshop with patients, carers and health and social care
professionals in June to decide on the definitive “Top 10”. In the words
of our esteemed NCRI Consumer Forum Chair, Richard Stephens, “there
were tears, there were heated discussions, but in the end, we have 10
questions of importance to a large number of people living with and
With our top research priorities clearly defined thanks to your help, we
can now embark on the next stage of encouraging collaboration and
accelerating efforts into plugging the gap in this area of cancer
research. At NCRI we are now focused on working with our partner
organisations, other funders, researchers and the NHS to turn these
priorities into research and patient benefit.
