#HeartburnRoadshowManchester
IN October 2025, Heartburn Cancer UK teamed up with Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance to take important awareness messages directly into local communities.
From Monday 6 to Friday 17 October 2025, our mobile information unit – The Heartburn Hub – visited 10 supermarket locations across Greater Manchester, to talk with residents about persistent heartburn, indigestion, or reflux, and why these symptoms should be discussed with a GP.
Visiting The Heartburn Roadshow
Oesophageal cancer – also known as cancer of the foodpipe – is the 7th biggest cancer killer in the UK – the 4th biggest for men – despite being only the 14th most common. So it’s important to know about potential symptoms so you can get treatment if you need it.
Our friendly team were on hand to discuss symptoms and concerns, and to also share trusted information about oesophageal cancer, Barrett’s oesophagus, and reflux-related conditions.
We have a range of leaflets and guidance to take away, helping people recognise symptoms early and feel confident about seeking help.
This initiative also gave healthcare professionals the chance to see how community outreach can support earlier diagnosis and encourage appropriate referrals for those at risk.
Whether you’re worried about symptoms, supporting someone who is, or working in healthcare, we’d love you to come and talk to us. Early action saves lives.

Joined by Patients from the Local Area
We were joined by patients, supporters, and local residents, including David and Gill, who shared their own experiences of oesophageal cancer to help others recognise the importance of early diagnosis.Â
Bringing Awareness to Local Communities
We met with hundreds of people, raising awareness that persistent heartburn is not normal and encouraging anyone with ongoing symptoms to speak to their GP.
Bob Says Get It Checked!
A huge thank you to long-time Heartburn Cancer UK supporter Bob Millington, who stopped by our Heartburn Hub at Tesco Extra, Irlam in Salford.
Bob’s wife, Veronica, sadly died from Oesophageal cancer, and he’s passionate about raising awareness of the dangers of persistent heartburn – it’s not something to ignore.
Bob shares a very important message: “Don’t live with it, check it out.“
Thank you, Bob, for continuing to share your message and support our work in helping others spot the signs early.Â
Joined by our Nutritionist and Pharmacist in Residence
We were joined by Debbie Grayson, HCUK’s Pharmacist and Nutritionist in Residence. Debbie spoke with many people about diet, lifestyle and medication. We managed to video some quick footage to share her advice regarding the top 3 questions she was asked.
Debbie discusses over-the-counter heartburn, reflux and indigestion medication.
Debbie discusses the use of long term PPI medication.
Debbie chats about why people feel their PPI medications are no longer working.

We actively promoted the roadshow across local press and social media.
Help us spread the word by connecting with us on social media. Like, follow, and share our posts to raise awareness about oesophageal cancer.Â
By joining the conversation and encouraging others to do the same, you’ll play a key role in ensuring more people recognise the symptoms and seek help early. Together, we can make a difference.
