Cancer and Malnutrition Research Study: Participant Invitation

We are pleased to share details of an important research study being conducted by Human8 in partnership with Healthcare Opinions (part of Acumen Health), a research participant recruitment agency based in Manchester.

This study aims to better understand the experiences of people who have been diagnosed with both cancer and malnutrition, with a particular focus on nutritional needs, symptoms, and the role of supplements during and after treatment.

About the Study

The research will involve a 90-minute online discussion group, taking place between the 23rd June – 3 July 2026, with three other participants and a trained interviewer. Participants will be asked to share their thoughts and experiences relating to nutritional supplements, particularly in the context of managing malnutrition symptoms. It is not necessary for participants to currently be taking supplements in order to take part.

To recognise their time and contribution, participants will receive a £80 thank you payment via bank transfer.

We understand that health can fluctuate, particularly for those undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment. If a participant is unable to attend on the day due to feeling unwell, there is flexibility to arrange a one-to-one interview at a more suitable time.

Who Can Take Part?

To ensure the study meets its research objectives, participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Aged between 30 and 70
  • Have received a diagnosis of cancer and malnutrition from a healthcare professional
  • Have either currently or previously received treatment for cancer (the timing or duration of treatment does not matter)

Please note: This is not an exhaustive list of the criteria we are looking for, but the primary criteria that all participants must fit.

How to Apply

Final Note

This research provides an opportunity to contribute valuable insight into the lived experience of cancer and malnutrition. The findings will help inform a better understanding of patient needs and may support improvements in care and nutritional support in the future.

We are grateful to everyone who considers taking part and supporting this important work.
