Purpose of the Market Research Study

The purpose of this market research is to understand the experiences and views of people diagnosed with / caring for someone with gastroesophageal cancer as well to understand their opinion on a hypothetical product in development.

By sharing their experiences, individuals have a real opportunity to potentially impact healthcare decisions and help guide development of patient support and information materials. This project is for market research purposes only and what is shared will be held in confidence. It is not intended to be promotional in any way, nor to influence decisions outside this market research setting.

  • Have been diagnosed / care for someone diagnosed with unresectable locally advanced / metastatic HER2+ GEA (over 6 months ago)
  • Be over the age of 18
  • Be receiving 1L or 2L therapy
* HER2+ is the result of the biomarker test
* Metastatic means the cancer has spread to other distant parts of the body like the liver, lungs, bones.

* Unresectable means that the cancer can no longer be removed by surgery.

Carers also must:

  • Not be a professional carer

What Does Taking Part Involve?

Exafield would like to invite people living with gastroesophageal cancer / caring for a loved one with gastroesophageal cancer who meet the criteria above to participate.

Taking part in this market research will involve completing group and individual activities within an online community that will be hosted via a web platform. Other participants in the online community will be individuals who have also been diagnosed with gastroesophageal cancer or are caring for someone with gastroesophageal cancer.

The research will be split into 2 phases:

  • Phase 1: Participation in this online community will take place over 14 consecutive days, with around 10 to 15 minutes of activities each day (Monday to Friday). The discussions will be monitored and moderated by a trained moderator and participants can complete the daily activities when it is most convenient for them.
  • Phase 2: The online community will be followed by either a one-on-one 75-minute interview or a 90-minute interview with someone else who took part in the community, where we will explore your experiences in more detail.

Exafield realise that this may be a sensitive health issue and would like to reassure you that the moderators they use are fully trained and experienced market research professionals who are sensitive to the challenges that can be faced by people living with gastroesophageal cancer. Depending on how participant feel, they will be flexible to suit their needs and will respect their wishes should they wish to defer completing the activities.

What are the Timescales?

It is planned that Phase 1 will take place between 16th June to 18th July 2025.

Incentive to Participate

In exchange for their valuable time, participants will receive £180 (if the option to online community + 75 min interview after) or £195 (if the option to online community + 90 min interview after), which is payable as BACS, PayPal or Amazon Voucher.
