Cancer52, the alliance of over 100 UK charities representing rare and less common cancers, including oesophageal cancer, has launched a new patient survey to better understand the experiences, challenges and priorities of people affected by cancers including oesophageal cancer.
At Heartburn Cancer UK, we know how important patient voices are in helping to improve awareness, diagnosis, treatment and support. This survey is an opportunity for people affected by oesophageal cancer to share their experiences and help shape future research, policy and advocacy work.
The survey aims to gather insight from patients across the cancer journey, including diagnosis, treatment, access to care and support services. This year’s survey also includes additional questions relating to genetic and genomic testing, helping researchers and policymakers better understand patient experiences in these important areas.
The findings will contribute to Cancer52’s wider influencing work, including their ACCESS Genomics programme and future policy work linked to the National Cancer Plan for England. Where enough responses are received for specific cancer types, anonymised findings may also be shared with the relevant Cancer52 member charities to help improve understanding of patient experiences.
The survey is completely anonymous, and Cancer52 has confirmed that the process complies with GDPR and data protection requirements.
Rare and less common cancers are often underrepresented, making it even more important that patient experiences are heard. The more responses received, the stronger the evidence base will be to help influence future care, research and support for people affected by these cancers.
If you or a loved one have been affected by oesophageal cancer, we would encourage you to consider taking part.
The survey closes on Friday 10 July.
